Stanton Park’s Mailorder Catalog turns 20
2009 is a special year for Stanton Park. It marks 20 years of selling records by mail. (Read the full story here.) To say that much has changed in the music world during that time would be a massive understatement. Oddly enough, though, some changes have been circular. Once upon a time CDs threatened to exterminate vinyl but only a few years later, digital downloads have drastically reduced CD sales, and vinyl has surprisingly resurrected itself. For record collectors, the format fluxuations have provided a bit of a windfall. Lots of titles long out of print on vinyl (or CD) have been reissued and are available again. You figure it out...
No matter what everyone else is doing, we still have lots of cool vinyl (and CDs) for the dedicated music fan available here on this site. Check it out here!
What is Stanton Park?
Stanton Park started off life in the ’80s as a label with a small mailorder catalog which was mailed to whoever asked. As that decade drew to a close the mailorder had grown to be a significant part of the busines. This growth would continue through the early ’90s and by the dawning of the new millenium, mailorder became the business, as the label for all intents and purposes stepped aside. As the current decade is winding down, we have seen a rather startling development: with the increasing popularity of MP3 downloads, CD sales have predictably declined. However, what has replaced the CD is a rather strong renewal of interest in vinyl! Since this site primarily specializes in vinyl, we are quite pleased. (We still carriy a selection of CDs and collectable fanzines from the ’80s and ’90s.)
