Stanton Park started off life in the ’80s as a Boston area record label releasing 45s and LPs by local bands such as: Willie Alexander, the Bags, Kenne Highland, Voodoo Dolls, World of Distortion and plenty more. In the ’90s the label looked beyond Boston for such bands as the Brian Jonestown Massacre, the Brood, Head and the Hares, Medicine Ball and ’60s garage legends the Rising Storm. Like many small indie label in the ’80s and ’90s Stanton Park also began selling records by mailorder to make ends meet. By the end of the ’90s, the tiny typewritten photocopied mailorder catalog began to grow exponentially eventually containing hundreds of titles. For much of the ’90s, the focus was primarily vinyl with a special appreciation for 45s, but slowly the CD started to make inroads particularly in the sixties garage reissue department. Then the web happened, and Stanton Park was online selling records that way. Which is where we are today. Here’s the story of how we got from a typewriter to the web.
If you like loud rock ’n’ roll inspried by the best of the ’60s–’90s, you’ve come to the right place. Garage, punk, psych, grunge, alt-indie titles can be found here.
